Broughton Old Jock Ale

'Old Jock Ale' conjures up images of a rugged, somewhat grumpy, elderly chap who you wouldn't wish to cross. The beer, on the other hand, is warm, welcoming and moreish. Rich and ruby tasting, I could happily drink this with a hearty helping of mashed potatoes!

This is a strong drink at 6.7%, but you tend not to notice it because of it's terrific flavour; It creeps up on you slowly as you drain the bottle. But this is a gretting from a dear friend in a Christmas-time pub, not a nasty surprise in the slightest.

Altenmünster

Altenmünster is not a bad beer. I think it would make a pleasant accompaniment to a meaty dish (being a vegetarian this is speculation). It build up a not-inconsiderable head when pouring, which denotes an excess of carbon in the recipe.

Altenmünster seemed to lack body, and there was no real opportunity to savour the taste; it went from 0 to 60 almost instantly, which stunted my enjoyment of it.

It certainty has an interesting bottle with a fun mechanism for opening and an interesting shape.

Overall, a drinkable drink but I wouldn't be returning to it anytime soon.
